The legendary Qi (Chi) tonic of the Orient, astragalus is known for its ability to build strong circulation and protect the body by enhancing surface immunity.

Astragalus (Astragalus membranaceus) is one of the great tonic herbs of traditional Chinese medicine. Astragalus has a rich history of use in Asian cultures; it is native to China, Mongolia and North Korea.

Astragalus tonifies what the Chinese call "wei qi" or "protective qi" which is the energy that runs just below the surface of the skin. When this aspect of the immune system is strong it is hard for foreign invaders to penetrate the body at all. Astragalus is also rich in immune-upgrading polysaccharides and nourishes immunity both on the surface and at deep levels (especially the respiratory system).

Astragalus is a wonderful toner of the Lung and Spleen organ systems and aids the body in converting oxygen and food into Qi, the energy that runs through our body and gives us vitality. The building of Qi also helps the body to circulate blood and fluids deeper into the tissue and is a great herb for those who experience cold extremities.

Many Taoists considered astragalus to be one of the most superior of all tonic herbs because of their ability to take large doses of the herb for decades and continue to see benefits unfolding.

This wild astragalus root is harvested from its natural home in China’s Changbai mountains where truly potent astragalus grows.
